Overview

I led design for a hospital operations tool where intake, census, staffing, and routing workflows had to stay clear under real-world pressure.

Context

Before Google, I worked as a Design Lead on an eight-month HCA / Healthtrust contract focused on Facility Scheduler, an internal hospital scheduling and logistics product. The product helped support hospital operations by balancing live census, staffing logistics, physician and nurse coordination, intake needs, and time-sensitive routing tasks.

Challenge

The challenge was designing for speed, clarity, and role-specific action in an environment where the cost of confusion was high. Hospital workflows are not linear: census may shift, staffing availability may change, and the right personnel may need to be notified quickly.

What I shaped

The work centered on user research and high-frequency workflows. I interviewed hospital staff, clinicians, operations leaders, and patients to understand where the tool needed to be faster, clearer, and less fragile under pressure.

  • Mapped workflows across intake, staffing, and patient assignment.
  • Designed for short input windows where speed and clarity mattered more than visual flourish.
  • Translated research into functional product improvements for hospital operations.

Outcome

The contract gave me a strong research and operations foundation before moving into Google Assistant and later Meta wearables.
