Overview

I helped define early assistant interaction patterns at Meta, shaping invocation, listening states, response surfaces, and the foundation that later made wearable AI work feel like a natural next step.

Context

I joined Meta from Google with assistant experience already in my toolkit. The work started in the 2019 assistant era, when product teams were still figuring out how assistants should behave across devices, apps, social contexts, and hands-free surfaces.

Challenge

The challenge was making assistant behavior visible and understandable without making it feel like a separate product pasted onto Meta. Users needed to know when the assistant was available, when it was listening, what it understood, what it could do next, and how a response related to the surface they were already using.

What I shaped

I helped define the early product-design layer for Facebook Assistant, including core UI states and brand-facing patterns that later informed my wearables work.

  • Translated assistant prompts and response behavior into visible product states.
  • Worked across content design, conversation design, engineering, and brand exploration.
  • Built the connective tissue that made later smart-glasses assistant work feel like a natural next step.

Outcome

This established early assistant interaction patterns that became part of my broader Meta throughline: assistants, voice interfaces, visual response systems, smart-glasses hardware, and wearable AI behavior.
